Arrival by train

The local trains ("S-Bahn") S 12 or S 13 leave from Koeln Hauptbahnhof (Hbf), Siegburg and Troisdorf. The local train S 13 also leaves from Koeln Bonn Airport. Daytime departures take place every 20 min for both trains so that there is a train every 10 minutes. Get off at the railway station "Porz-Wahn" and continue from there by KVB bus number 162, direction "DLR". See instructions "By bus" below.

Note: Make sure that you have a valid ticket. Tickets for local train routes must be purchased in advance. If you need a ticket, you can get one from the ticket machines.

Arrival by bus

To get to DLR Koeln by bus, take the KVB bus number 162 from Porz-Wahn. The bus sign will show "DLR". Please be sure that you take the one saying "DLR" as there are different routes for bus number 162. Exit at the last stop and you have arrived at the main gate of the German Aerospace Center DLR Koeln.

Arrival by taxi

Upon arrival at Koeln Hauptbahnhof (central station) take a taxi to "Porz-Wahnheide, DLR". Taxi stands are located on both, the north and south exit of the station. Taxis are available almost everywhere in Cologne. However, if you can't find one, you can call Tel. 19410 and ask to be picked up. Tell the driver to take you to "Porz-Wahnheide, DLR". The price will very much depend on daytime and traffic but from Cologne central station to DLR without any traffic jam it should not exceed 35 Euro.

Arrival by car

Have a look at the map displayed below: Arriving from Frankfurt (A3) or from Bonn (A59): follow the indications to Koeln Bonn Airport (A59) until the exit Porz-Wahn/Wahnheide. At the exit take the right (Porz-Wahnheide) and follow the DLR sign.

Arriving from Cologne (A59) or Oberhausen/Duesseldorf (A3): follow the indications to Koeln/Bonn Airport (A59), then do not exit at the interchange "Flughafen Köln/Bonn" but take the next exit Porz-Wahn/Wahnheide. At the exit drive left (Porz-Wahnheide) and follow the DLR sign.

Important Note: If you use a navigation system, enter your destination as "Planitzweg" instead of Linder Höhe. This will take you to the North entrance where you are requested to register. You need your passport for this purpose.

Arrival by air

You can reach Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) easily by rail from DLR. The railway station is located at the center of the airport and offers public transport services to DLR Site  every 20-30 minutes (20-30 minutes intervalls).

From Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) there are public transport services to Cologne and the conference venue every 30 minutes. Transfer duration is in the range of 60 minutes.

Train connections from Frankfurt Airport ( FRA) to Cologne City or Siegburg  are provided at 20-45 minutes intervals. Shortest transfer duration is about 1 hour.

Upon arrival at Koeln Bonn Airport there's two possibilities: Take a taxi in front of the terminal and ask the driver to take you to "DLR in Porz-Wahnheide". Or take the local train S 13 direction "Troisdorf" from the railway station "Köln/Bonn Flughafen", which is located in the basement of the airport, to the station "Porz-Wahn" which is your first stop after boarding the train. Continue from there by KVB bus number 162, direction "DLR". See also above instructions "By Train" and "By Bus"

Entering DLR site Cologne

In order to enter DLR site, please come to the North entrance. The North entrance is the main entrance. It is important that you note that the North entrance of DLR is located in the street "Planitzweg". This might be very confusing, because it deviates from the official address "Linder Hoehe". So, if you do not want to find yourself in the middle of nowhere, please note that you must come to "Planitzweg". It is easy, if you simply follow the road signs to DLR, but difficult, if you have a navigation system. In the latter case, enter "Planitzweg".

Once arrived at the North entrance, you are kindly asked to register. The officers should have your name on the list of visitors already. However, you still need to show your valid passport to them. So please, have your passport ready when entering DLR. If you don't have your passport ready, entering DLR site will be refused. When you receive your batch, please wear the batch visibly.

Once you passed through the gate, please come to the Institut für Materialphysik im Weltraum where IWSSTP 2019 takes place. Each building is numbered. Please come to building No 21. You can find a map with an overview here. In addition, you might want to check DLR's webpage: DLR site cologne

A valid passport is required for non-EU citizens for entry into GERMANY and the European Union. An identity card is sufficient for citizens of EU Member States. Please consult your local Consulate according to your nationality for specific details. A valid passport or identity card will also be needed in order to enter DLR site.

Advance travel planning and early visa application are important, since entry to Germany with a visa is subject to more intense scrutiny than was previously the case. If you do need a visum to attend the workshop, please apply for one as soon as possible.
